Every year at the team party we give out the MVP and Comet awards for the full school year.  Students don’t have to be part of the team all year to earn them, but it helps.

• The MVP award is earned by the athletes who’s speed contributed best to competitive success.  That can be outright speed, or speed gained over the year.  Either way, they make the boats faster.
• The Comet award is earned by the athletes who worked the hardest for themselves and for the team, and/or contributed in the best ways to make the team successful (in all things, not just competition).

Of note, it’s incredibly difficult to win the same award twice.  An athlete’s quality has been recognized.  They need to go way above/beyond that already high standard to earn further recognition.  Also of note, team captains voluntarily sign up to work hard and push the team toward competitive success.  Since the 2017/18 season, captains have needed to do great things to also win one of these awards.
